What is Crossfit?
CrossFit is an extremely efficient and effective way to get into world-class shape. Workouts consist of constantly varied, functional movements (like jumping, running, squatting, pushing, throwing, and pulling) performed at high intensity in a coached, communal environment. Our program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. Combat, survival, many sports, and life reward this kind of fitness and, on average, punish the specialist.
Crossfit is a lifestyle in which you are prioritizing your health and ability to perform many different tasks at a high level of intensity. It is the team atmosphere, and the sense of camaraderie when you come. As a member of Thorbeckes Crossfit, everybody knows your name and the community is always there for you, cheering you on and never letting you quit, even when it gets hard and you want to give up. Crossfit is a new challenge every day- always different and never boring. You will compete with yourself to become better every month, every week, and every day. Crossfit facilities are affectionately called “Boxes” because of the minimal equipment and open space inside. You may walk in and wonder “Where are all the machines?” The answer? We don’t use machines. We are the machines.
Entering a CrossFit box for the first time can be intimidating. A new client will see athletes lifting heavy weights, swinging from pull-up bars and doing movements not seen in most gyms. However, the programming is for everyone who is willing to come in and give it their best effort.
